The Peter B. Maggs Award Fund was established in honor of Professor Maggs, a renowned expert on Russian law who also studied the legal systems of other former Soviet republics. The fund will provide awards to law students, graduate and postgraduate students, and early career faculty from institutions outside the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign who are attending the Summer Research Lab. These awards will support scholars whose work focuses on Russia, Eastern Europe, or Eurasia, helping them deepen their research during their time on campus.

The recipient of the 2026 Maggs Fellow Award will participate in the SRL at the University of Illinois. The fellowship provides a $1,500 stipend to support participation in the SRL. While in attendance at the SRL, the Maggs Fellow will receive bibliographic training sessions at SRS. The selected Maggs Fellow will be expected to produce a white paper at a later date based on their findings while in residence at Illinois.
