For over forty years, the University of Illinois has hosted our annual Summer Research Laboratory on Russia, East Europe, and Eurasia (SRL). This program is supported in part by a generous grant from the U.S. Department of State through its Program for the Study of Eastern Europe and the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union (Title VIII).
With renewed support from Title VIII, we plan to offer the SRL again this year. However, we are in the process of adapting it to the continuing uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic. Last summer, at the beginning of the pandemic, we rearranged the SRL into a virtual event, providing remote library access, bibliographical consultation, and research and training workshops. While we hope to be able to offer the SRL in-person in Summer 2021, we are considering remote options should this not be possible.
While much remains to be determined, we wanted you to know that even in this extraordinary and difficult year we plan to offer the SRL program. We will be back in touch as soon as possible, and expect to be able to offer a call for applications by early in the New Year.
Thank you very much for your consideration and attention.
Best wishes,
John Randolph, Director (REEEC)
