Danielle Sekel is the Outreach & Programming Coordinator at the Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her doctoral research considers the music of Slovak and Polish immigrant families in the (post-)industrial anthracite mining communities of Northeast Pennsylvania. Her master's research centered on Bosnian hip hop as oral tradition and the intergenerational mass-mediated discourse of Bosnian hip hop artists in the postwar context. Danielle was a FLAS fellow with REEEC from 2019-2021, studying Bosnian and Bulgarian.

Before coming to UIUC, she was a middle and high school music and literature teacher in South Carolina and has developed curriculum for and taught at K-12 summer programs at the American University in Bulgaria and Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School (Pennsylvania).
