Megan Carpenter, M.A. Student in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies  meganec4@illinois.edu

Megan is an Outreach Assistant with REEEC and a first year Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies M.A. student. Her research interests are Soviet propaganda, Soviet women’s history, and post-Soviet Russian politics. Megan is from California and she received her B.A. in Political Science and Russian from the University of California, Davis in 2018.

Sydney Lazarus, M.A. Student in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies   lazarus5@illinois.edu

Sydney Lazarus is a second-year M.A. student at REEEC. Her research interests include language and education policy in contemporary Macedonia. She received her bachelor’s degree in journalism and Slavic languages and literature from Northwestern University.

Jesse Wesso, M.A. Student in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies  jessemw2@illinois.edu

Jesse Mikhail Wesso is an Outreach Assistant in the Russian, East European and Eurasian Center and a second year master’s student in Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies. His research interests are empire, nation and religion in Central Asia and the Russian Empire. Jesse was born in Pekin, Illinois, and received a Bachelor of Arts in History and English (Creative Writing) from Bradley University in 2013. In addition to his work in history, Jesse has published several works of poetry in journals such as Fifth Wednesday, Contrary, and Bluestem Magazine. He is also an avid musician and plays the guitar, bass guitar, piano, drums, and sings.
